Arrange this tour if you want to spend a full day in the mountains, not just an hour or two. You'll walk around 14 km through the valley: along the river, through the forest, and uphill to Mujug Waterfall, deep in the Gabala district. The tour is private, so the start time and pace can be agreed in advance and you don't have to fit around a large group. It's a proper day on the trail, not a short walk for a few photos, so plan your energy accordingly.
Unique Tour to Laza and Mujug Waterfalls from Baku
Tour Itinerary
We head north from Baku into the Gabala district, all the way to the village of Laza. It's one of the highest villages in the district, sitting almost right under the ridge. The trail starts here, and the first waterfall on the route is named after the village. The start time is agreed in advance so there's enough daylight for the whole distance.
The trail breaks down into three parts. First, you follow a mountain river and cross it several times on stones: the water is clear and shallow, but you do need to watch your step. Then comes dense forest, where it's cooler in the shade and the climb feels easier. Toward the end, the trees thin out and views open up over the ridges of the Greater Caucasus.
The first, Laza Waterfall, is close to the start of the trail. The second, Mujug, is the main goal of the hike: it's 7 km from the start, where the valley narrows and the water drops off a rock face. The landscape changes several times between the two, so the trail itself is as interesting as the waterfalls.
After 7 km on foot, there's a proper break here. You can have a picnic, and in the right season pick some herbs along the way (thyme, mint, chamomile) and brew tea right by the water. The sound of the falls, the shade of the rocks, and the cool air make it a good spot to rest and take photos. Then you head back the same way. It adds up to about 14 km in total, so it's a full day.

This hike is medium-to-high difficulty. There's no technical climbing, but you'll need good general fitness and be ready for a long day of walking.
The plan may change depending on weather and the water level in the river — mainly for safety during river crossings.
Since this is a private tour, you can agree on the start time and pace when you book. The route can also be adjusted to match your fitness level.
